Daily summary vs transaction-level: the core difference

Commerce Sync posts one entry per day. According to its own documentation, "all your transactions for a given day will be transferred at one time at the end of the day," bundling every sale, refund, and processing fee for that day into a single summary line. When a Stripe payout arrives, Commerce Sync records it as a deposit that includes all payments, refunds, processing fees, and other activity from that period, without breaking each piece out separately.

Acodei records every Stripe transaction as its own entry: each charge, each refund, each fee, each dispute, tied to its own Stripe transaction ID, posted to a clearing account that mirrors your Stripe balance. When a customer emails asking why they were charged $47.20 and not $50, a daily summary tool cannot answer that from the books alone. With transaction-level detail, the answer is one search away.

Which model you want depends on what you need from your books. A daily summary is faster to set up and easier to read at a glance. Transaction-level detail is what you need when a specific charge, refund, or dispute has to be traced, or when your accountant needs to reconcile fees against the reports Stripe itself publishes rather than trusting a bundled number.

Pricing

Acodei starts at $12 per month ($120 per year on annual billing with 2 months free), covering 100 transactions per month on the Scale plan. Commerce Sync published Stripe pricing (shown in Canadian, UK, and Ireland currency on their site) lists a Stripe Essential tier around $20 per month and a Stripe Expert tier around $46 per month, with a 20% discount on annual billing; The Commerce Sync homepage states its plans generally range from $20 to $59.95 per month depending on the payment platform connected.

Both companies offer a free trial (14 days for Acodei, 15 days for Commerce Sync) with no credit card required for Acodei. If you need historical data pulled in before your signup date, Acodei includes full backfill with duplicate detection; Commerce Sync charges a separate flat fee for its Historical Transfer service.

Payment platform breadth vs Stripe-specific depth

Commerce Sync connects to more than just Stripe: Square, Clover, Authorize.Net, GoDaddy Payments, and Lightspeed are all supported alongside Stripe, each syncing into the same daily-summary model. If your business takes payments through multiple processors and you want one tool posting one daily entry per processor, that breadth is a real advantage over a Stripe-only integration.

The tradeoff is depth. Acodei was built specifically around the edge cases that come up in real Stripe accounts: negative payouts, held funds, reserves, disputes with their $15 chargeback fee, and multicurrency payouts. A tool that treats Stripe as one of several supported processors, wrapped in a daily-summary model, does not surface that level of Stripe-specific detail because the sync was not designed to capture it in the first place.

QuickBooks Desktop and Xero support

This is a genuine Commerce Sync advantage. Commerce Sync syncs to QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, and Xero. Acodei is QuickBooks Online only. If your books run on QuickBooks Desktop or Xero and migrating to QuickBooks Online is not on the table, Commerce Sync is the tool that fits your accounting software; Acodei is not an option until that changes.

Invoices and subscription billing

Commerce Sync is oriented around daily sales totals rather than individual invoices or subscriptions. Its own materials describe customer-level order history tracking as useful for reviewing a full order history for a repeat subscriber, but there is no documented handling for Stripe invoice line items, auto-applied payments, or subscription-specific events like proration and dunning.

Acodei syncs Stripe invoices as full QuickBooks invoices with line items and automatic payment matching, and treats Stripe Billing subscription events (plan changes, proration, trial conversions, failed payment retries) as first-class workflows. For invoice-driven or subscription-driven Stripe businesses, this is a meaningful depth gap.

Support and historical data

Commerce Sync offers email support only, Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm MST. Acodei includes email and Zoom support with a 24-hour response time on every paid plan, which matters when a reconciliation question needs a real conversation rather than an email thread.

On historical data, Acodei includes full backfill with duplicate detection at no extra cost. Commerce Sync prices its Historical Transfer service, which pulls in transaction data from before your signup date, separately as a flat fee on top of your subscription.
