Acodei vs A2X

These two tools are shortlisted together constantly, and they do different jobs. Acodei syncs your Stripe account into QuickBooks Online directly. A2X summarizes marketplace and storefront settlements — Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Etsy, Walmart, PayPal — and does not offer a direct Stripe integration. Here is how to tell which one your business actually needs.

Quick verdict

Choose Acodei if

Choose Acodei if your revenue runs through Stripe itself — Stripe Billing subscriptions, Stripe invoices, Checkout, payment links, or Connect. A2X has no direct Stripe channel, so this side of your business is invisible to it. Acodei mirrors Stripe charges, fees, payouts, and invoices into QuickBooks Online from $12 per month.

Choose A2X if

Choose A2X if you sell on marketplaces and storefronts — Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Etsy, or Walmart — and want each settlement posted to QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, or Sage as a clean, auto-categorized summary matched to the deposit. That is the job A2X has done since 2014, and it does not require direct Stripe support to do it.

The comparison most pages get wrong: A2X does not connect to Stripe

A2X’s integration list is Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Etsy, Walmart, and PayPal. Stripe is not on it. When Stripe shows up in A2X’s books at all, it is because Stripe is the payment gateway behind a storefront A2X does support — A2X’s own documentation puts it this way: “as long as the payment gateway is used on one of A2X’s supported integrations, A2X will create a separate entry for each of the payment gateways on your online store.”

That distinction decides this entire comparison. If a customer pays a Stripe invoice, subscribes through Stripe Billing, or checks out through a Stripe payment link, there is no storefront in the middle — and A2X never sees the transaction. A business whose revenue runs through Stripe directly cannot use A2X for that revenue, at any price. Acodei connects to the Stripe account itself, so charges, refunds, fees, payouts, and invoices flow to QuickBooks regardless of whether a storefront was involved.

Summaries versus transactions

A2X’s model is settlement summaries: each marketplace payout becomes one auto-categorized entry — sales, fees, taxes — that matches the bank deposit to the penny. For high-volume marketplace sellers that is exactly the right shape: the books stay light and every deposit reconciles in one click.

Acodei supports that shape too — its daily-summary mode posts one aggregated record per day — but it also offers full per-transaction sync: every Stripe charge, refund, and invoice as its own QuickBooks record, with rule-based product mapping and customer sync. Subscription businesses that need invoice-level A/R in QuickBooks, or anyone whose accountant wants transaction-level drill-down, need the per-transaction option that a settlement-summary tool does not offer.

Price: different models, different math

Acodei starts at $12 per month ($120 per year on annual billing, two months free) with unlimited Stripe accounts and unlimited users on every plan; tiers scale with transaction volume.

A2X prices per sales channel, starting at $29 per month for Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Etsy, or PayPal, and $79 per month for Walmart, with multi-channel pricing quoted separately. A seller on two marketplaces is paying per channel; a Stripe-only business would be paying for a channel A2X does not have. The costs are not directly comparable because the products do not overlap — which is also why some businesses run both.

Where A2X genuinely wins

If your revenue comes from marketplaces, A2X is the incumbent for a reason. It has summarized marketplace settlements since 2014, it is trusted by over 13,000 e-commerce businesses and their accountants, and it posts to Xero, NetSuite, and Sage as well as QuickBooks Online — Acodei is QuickBooks Online only. Amazon settlement accounting, with its dozens of fee types straddling month boundaries, is a genuinely hard problem that A2X has spent a decade refining.

None of that transfers to direct Stripe volume, but if Amazon or Shopify is where your money is, A2X is the right tool and this is not a close call.

Running both: a common setup

A business that sells on Amazon and also bills clients through Stripe invoices has two disjoint revenue streams, and neither tool covers the other’s. The clean setup is A2X posting marketplace settlement summaries while Acodei syncs the Stripe side — invoices, subscriptions, payouts — into the same QuickBooks file. Each tool reconciles its own deposits, and nothing is double-counted because the two never touch the same transaction.

Pros and cons

Acodei

Pros

  • +Connects directly to your Stripe account — Stripe Billing, invoices, Checkout, payment links, and Connect all sync without a storefront in the middle
  • +Choice of per-transaction real-time sync or daily summary, so the books can be as granular as your accountant wants
  • +Invoice sync creates QuickBooks invoices with auto-applied payments and credit memos on paid plans
  • +Plans start at $12 per month ($120 per year on annual billing) with unlimited Stripe accounts and unlimited users
  • +Stripe fees, payouts, disputes, and edge cases (negative payouts, reserves) handled via the clearing-account flow
  • +Multicurrency support for invoices, payments, refunds, and payouts with exchange rates from Stripe or QBO — enabled by Acodei on request; zero-decimal currencies such as JPY are not supported

Cons

  • -QuickBooks Online only — no Xero, NetSuite, or Sage
  • -No marketplace coverage: Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Walmart, and Shopify settlements are out of scope

Weighing vendor legitimacy against an established brand? Acodei is the only QuickBooks integration listed in Stripe's own accounting-integrations documentation.

A2X

Pros

  • +The established marketplace-settlement tool: summarizing Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Etsy, and Walmart payouts since 2014, trusted by 13,000+ businesses

  • +Posts to QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, and Sage
  • +Gateway-level entries separate out payment methods used on a supported storefront

Cons

  • -Summary-only granularity: no per-transaction records or invoice-level A/R in the accounting file
  • -Priced per sales channel from $29 per month each, so multi-channel sellers pay per connection
  • -Higher-tier pricing and volume limits are not publicly itemized

Frequently asked questions

Does A2X integrate with Stripe?

Not directly. A2X’s supported channels are Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Etsy, Walmart, and PayPal. Its documentation states that when Stripe is used as the payment gateway on one of those storefronts, A2X creates a separate entry for the gateway in the settlement summary — but revenue that runs through Stripe itself (Billing subscriptions, Stripe invoices, Checkout, payment links) never reaches A2X because there is no storefront in front of it.

Which is better for Stripe to QuickBooks: Acodei or A2X?

For direct Stripe volume it is not a choice — A2X has no Stripe channel, so Acodei is the tool that does the job. The real question is where your revenue comes from. Marketplace and storefront settlements are A2X’s job; direct Stripe activity is Acodei’s. A business with both revenue streams often runs both tools into the same QuickBooks file.

Can I use Acodei and A2X together?

Yes, and it is a sensible pairing when you sell on marketplaces and also bill through Stripe. A2X posts settlement summaries for the marketplace side while Acodei syncs Stripe charges, invoices, and payouts. The two never touch the same transaction, so nothing is double-counted.

Is Acodei cheaper than A2X?

At entry level, yes: Acodei starts at $12 per month versus A2X’s $29 per month per channel. But the comparison is really about coverage, not price — each tool covers revenue the other cannot see. Compare on which product covers your revenue first, then on price within that answer.

My Shopify store uses Stripe as its gateway. Which tool do I need?

For Shopify order and settlement accounting, A2X — Shopify is one of its supported channels, and it will break out Stripe-gateway entries within the Shopify summary. Acodei covers the Stripe account itself, which matters when you also run charges through Stripe outside the storefront: subscriptions, invoices, or payment links. If everything flows through Shopify checkout, A2X alone covers it; if part of your revenue is direct Stripe, that part needs Acodei.

Does A2X handle Stripe fees and payouts?

Only for volume that passes through a supported storefront, where fees appear inside the settlement summary. Fees and payouts on direct Stripe activity are not visible to A2X. Acodei records Stripe fees as expenses or on the deposit per your mapping, and reconciles payouts — including negative payouts and reserve holds — against the clearing account.
